Jumbo Car Reunion Island
We rented a car from Jumbo Car for two weeks, in Saint Denis, Reunion Island. The front desk was very busy and understaffed at the time, there was only one person behind the desk. He was swamped and did not have time to accompany us to our rental. He requested that I do a check myself the next day for any scratches or dents that were not noted on the paperwork, as it was dark and he did not have time to check himself. On the way to the hotel, my wife noted a chip in the bottom left side of the windscreen. It was not so easy to spot, as it was in the shaded part of the windscreen. It was late and we had three sleepy children in the back. The next morning I took some pictures of the chip and emailed it to the rental company. However, I did not have international roaming and had to wait until I could connect to local wifi. The email sat in my outbox for two days before it left. Needless to say, Jumbo was not willing to accept responsibility for the chip. When I returned the car, they had printed out me email with the pictures, but they could not find the chip themselves and asked me to point it out to them. They then sent an invoice a couple of weeks later for 713 Euros, which I found exorbitant. They charged for an entire new windscreen. In retrospect, I have myself to blame. I should NEVER have accepted the car without a thorough check. I should also NEVER have reported the chip in the first place - sometimes it doesn't help to be honest.
